Eddie Gomez Trio

On Tuesday, April 24th, at 8:00pm ALL welcomes the Eddie Gomez Trio. Accompanying Eddie Gomez will be Stefan Karlsson on piano and Rodrigo Villanueva on drums. Advance tickets are sold out, but a limited number of tickets will be available at the door ($25). Doors open at 7:30pm. General admission + standing room in the back. Arrive early for a seat!

Legendary bassist and two-time Grammy® award winner EDDIE GOMEZ has been on the cutting edge of music for over four decades. His impressive resumé includes performances with jazz giants such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Bill Evans, Gerry Mulligan and Benny Goodman. Eddie’s unique sound and style can be heard on many Grammy-winning records as well as on hundreds of recordings spanning the worlds of jazz, classical, Latin jazz, rhythm & blues, popular and contemporary music.

Eddie Gomez

Eddie is a brilliant bassist, multi Grammy Award winner, whose flexibility and quick reflexes make him an ideal accompanist, He grew up in New York and was with the Newport Festival Youth Band during 1959-1961. After studying at Juilliard, Gomez played with Rufus Jones' sextet, Marian McPartland (1964), Paul Bley (1964-1965), Giuseppe Logan, Gerry Mulligan, and Gary McFarland, among others. Gomez came to fame during his long period with the Bill Evans Trio (1966-1977). He has since worked in a countless number of settings, including filling in for Charles Mingus (1978) and with Steps Ahead (1979-1984), Benny Wallace, Joanne Brackeen, Jack DeJohnette, Chick Corea, and in commercial settings as a studio musician. Eddie Gomez has recorded as a leader for Columbia, ProJazz, and Stretch Records.

Stefan Karlsson

A native of Sweden, Stefan came to the United States in 1984 to study at the University of North Texas. While at UNT he became, for three years, a member of the world renowned One O'clock Lab Band. After having resided in Denver, Colorado (1991-1994) and in Las Vegas, Nevada (1994-2002), Stefan is currently a Full Professor in the Jazz Studies Division at the University of North Texas. Stefan stays active as a clinician and performer concertizing at festivals, clubs and conferences worldwide. His discography includes 55 recordings with seven CD's as a leader. He is currently a recording artist on the Cambria/Troppe Note Record label. Further, Stefan's music was featured in the 1994 movie releases Sugar Hill (featuring Wesley Snipes), Twenty Bucks (featuring Christopher Loyd), and the 1997 Independent film Strays. Rodrigo Villanueva

Drummer and composer, Mr. Rodrigo Villanueva holds a bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas. He has played and/or recorded with several jazz, classical and pop artists from Mexico, Perú, Korea, Japan and the U.S. Among them are Eddie Gomez, Stefan Karlsson, Lynn Seaton, Fareed Haque, Ed Saindon, Clark Terry, Eddie Henderson, Jimmy Owens, Liam Teague, Rodolfo Sanchez, Lee Tomboulian, Hiro Morozumi, Jangeun Bae, Carlos Guedes, Takayoshi Yoshioka, Jon Anderson, Carlos Prieto, Roberto Limón, Sandra Kaye, Carla White, and the Mexican pop icons Lucero and Alejandro Fernandez.

As a composer, he has arranged and/or sequenced music for pop artists and has published several original compositions for jazz big band.
