Arts + Literature Laboratory welcomes ZRL to Madison on June 4, 2022 at 7:00pm. This special concert celebrates the release of their newest project, Our Savings! Tickets $15 ($10 students/members) advance online until two hours before the show, or $20 at the door. Advance purchase recommended as capacity will be limited. ZRL is Zachary Good, Ryan Packard, and Lia Kohl. Zachary plays clarinets and recorders. Ryan plays percussion and electronics. Lia plays cello and sometimes sings through a megaphone. They make their music in the moment, in a practice not unlike being in a three person canoe. They formed in 2014 out of mutual love, trust, and admiration for one another.

Zachary Good is a Chicago-based instrumentalist (clarinets and Baroque recorders), composer, and performer.

Zachary is clarinetist of the sextet Eighth Blackbird, a founding Co-Artistic Director of the performance collective Mocrep, and one-third of the clarinet/percussion/cello trio ZRL. He has frequently performed with International Contemporary Ensemble, Music of the Baroque Chicago, Manual Cinema, and Ensemble Dal Niente. He has been a featured soloist with International Contemporary Ensemble, DePaul University's Ensemble 20+, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s All Access Chamber Series. His discography includes releases on American Dreams Records, Carrier Records, No Index, Homeroom, Parlour Tapes+, ears&eyes, and more.

Ryan Packard is a percussionist composer sound artist based in Stockholm/Chicago

Recent projects and collaborations explore the sonification of lived experiences through their accompanying objects and interpersonal relationships. A curiosity towards listening environments, physical space, and psychoacoustics drive the work as it seeks to promote a heightened state of consciousness even in the most understated spaces and moments.

Ryan Packard is a percussionist, composer and sound artist currently based in Stockholm, SE and Chicago, IL. His sound installations have been featured at the MCA Chicago, Graham Foundation, Defibrillator, Hyde Park Arts Center, Galeria Labirynt, High Concept Labs, Constellation Chicago, and Experimental Sound Studio. Lia Kohl is a cellist, composer, and multidisciplinary artist based in Chicago. She creates and performs music and multimedia performance that incorporates sound, video, movement, theatre, and sculptural objects. She has presented work and performed at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the Walker Art Center, Chicago Symphony Center, and Eckhart Park Pool, and held residencies at Mana Contemporary Chicago, High Concept Labs, dfbrl8r Performance Art Gallery, Mills College and Stanford University.

She is a curator and ensemble member with poly-disciplinary performance ensemble Mocrep. As an improviser and collaborator, she has participated in cultural exchanges in Mexico, France, Germany, Denmark, China and the UK. She has toured on four continents.
