Artist statement:

From a childhood overshadowed by a visual impairment to an adulthood marked by empowerment and self-ownership. In the early chapters of my life, I allowed my visual impairment to dictate my narrative, concealing it behind a facade of pretend normalcy and humor to avoid the unknown. As the years unfolded, I shed this persona, choosing instead to embrace my vision and, in turn, myself. The path to this self-acceptance was not without its challenges, but over time, a newfound sense of empowerment emerged. I learned to wrest control from my blindness, transforming it from a controlling force into a facet of my identity that I could own and navigate. This transformation echoes in my art practice—an embodiment of my reshaped perspective. This exhibition, Delineate, asks the viewer to reassess their preconceived notions and embrace a new perspective on what’s known. In collaboration with the viewer this exhibition seeks to raise awareness about the often-misunderstood world of those living without sight as their primary means. It aims to bridge the gap between sighted and non-sighted individuals, fostering empathy, understanding, and inclusion.

Through this multi-sensory installation "Delineate" invites participants into an interactive space that challenges their perceptions and engagement with surroundings. It Immerses the viewer in an environment stripped of visual dominance, compelling you to relearn spatial navigation and interpretation. Through diverse senses, information is gathered, stimulating visual memory and cultivating a mental image that fosters safety and comfort within the space.

Through my work, viewers are empowered to problem-solve, transcending their own experiences and making informed choices. As I am not confined by my blindness, a sighted individual is not confined solely by their vision. Join me in unraveling preconceptions, breaking barriers, and celebrating the rich tapestry of identities that define us all.

The puzzle is square shaped with numerous interlocking pieces that feature various shapes and tabs. The surface of each piece is smooth and blank, devoid of any patterns, colors, or imagery. The puzzle pieces are neatly arranged, creating an organized grid, emphasizing the potential for completion and the opportunity for assembly. In the lower right hand corner large text in Bold font reads Delineate right below this text smaller text reads Arts + Literature Laboratory 111 S.
