Mills Folly Microcinema presents Project Projection Spring 2024, a program of locally produced film and video, Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 7:00pm. Free admission, donations encouraged.
Join us for an evening of experimental films, poetic documentaries, music videos, and animation produced by filmmakers who reside in Madison and Dane County. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Program running order will be provided in the program notes at the screening. Total program running time is approximately 90 minutes. A Q&A session with the filmmakers in attendance will follow the screening.
The Treachery of Images (of dogs) | David Boffa | 2024 | 10:00
A short documentary about our relationship to the photographic image—told entirely through images of dogs.
David Boffa is an independent filmmaker and dog lover living in Madison, Wisconsin. For several years he taught art history at Beloit College, and art historical practices still inform his filmmaking process. He currently works as a Producer in the Education Department at PBS Wisconsin.

Bigfoot does not exist. FRAWG does! Steve Chappell is an animator, illustrator, composer, and filmmaker. He has published graphic novels, designed/illustrated books, CDs, and an album cover. He carved a wood sign for a coffee house, and poured concrete for a two-ton cat tomb. He has made many films and a few of them have won awards, including TRILOGY OF TEAR! (Best Animated Short at MIDWEST WEIRDFEST 2020), and ED GEIN INTERVIEW (Best Animated Film at MLC Awards 2021).

All Of My Very Own is not only a film but a memorial. Overdoses (particularly fentanyl) are the No.1 cause of death in the US for those under 29. My goal is to raise $1,000 for The National Harm Reduction Coalition, a non profit committed to ending the overdose crisis. Decades of experience and evidence prove that getting naloxone into the hands of people who use drugs is the most effective way to prevent overdose.
GG Christensen is a multimedia visual artist from Minneapolis, MN, and Fayetteville, GA. GG’s art has been shown at MMoCA, the Overture, Memorial Union and the Minneapolis Institute of Art.

In the summer of 2008 my best friend Eric and I set out on a road trip that was all about being ourselves and living life to the fullest. We did not know nature would have some big surprises in storm for us.
My videos are basically home made music videos that bring out the extraordinary in the ordinary. I've never tried to make anything for an outside audience to watch, so this is my first attempt to create a story without words. Perhaps I'll keep working with this footage and other filmmakers to bring out the stories with interviews and more montages of what was going on at that time - to explain our deeper thoughts and narration of the video we took.

Michael got his formal start in video at WYOU -- Madison's bygone public access channel. Since then, he has deployed his prowess to stick it to the man, get noticed by the man, collect a paycheck from the man, become the man and, ultimately, start the cycle anew. Michael has worked professionally as an editor, animator, cinematographer, title designer, box truck driver, production assistant, craft services angel, hand model & much more.

Looking for Lamassu is a short film about the Assyrians. Lamassu, a statue that once protected the palaces, has come to symbolize the long collapsed empire.
Alfred Rasho worked as an independent filmmaker in Chicago for over 35 years, producing documentaries & educational films. He has been awarded two regional Emmy Awards, and the gold prize from Chicago International Film Festival for Nubia and the Mysteries of Kush, filmed on location in Egypt and Sudan.

Once Removed is a letterpress animation by Devon Stackonis which utilizes pressure printing, hand-set type, and monotype print sequences paired with a poem that poses extraction and mutilation of the landscape in relationship to the body.
Through printmaking, book arts, installation, and stop motion animation, Devon Stackonis explores the relationship of the heavily scarred, post industrial landscape and bodily trauma. Her MFA thesis exhibition, Retaining Walls, is on display through May 10, 2024 at Tandem Press.

Ego takes the viewer through a journey of growing up, exploring the development of identity and ego. Using childhood memories contrasted with the ordinary events of adult life, the video delves into the intricacies of the perception of reality in different stages of life.
Kiesen Williams is a Communication Arts and Journalism student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who recently completed an independent study examining the history of Madison's campus film culture.

A study in designing a visual motif for a motion picture. This film uses space, movement, rhythm, and color to explore affinity and contrast. I am an eternal student learning the craft, and I created this film to expand my visual palette. Content note: This video contains nudity.
Nicholas Wootton has been making films in the Madison area since 2009. His 2014 dark comedy Just God screened at the Green Bay and Wildwood film festivals. His 2016 documentary Real... Live... screened at Green Bay and the Wisconsin Film Festival.
