Join us on Saturday, June 10, 2023, 10:30am, at Sequoya Library, 4340 Tokay Boulevard, for a special presentation by Madison keyboardist Dave Stoler on legendary jazz composer and saxophonist Wayne Shorter. This event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 10:00am.

Dave Stoler will present an analysis of Wayne Shorter’s career, music and legacy. Considered to be one of the world’s greatest composers and one of the greatest jazz saxophonists of all time, Wayne Shorter received 11 Grammy Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Grammy, five honorary doctorate degrees, the Kennedy Center Honor, Polar Music Prize, Lifetime Achievement Award from the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz and many other awards and honors for his contributions to music. Shorter passed away at the age of 89 on March 2, 2023.

Dave Stoler is a native of Madison WI, and has formerly resided in New York City, Milwaukee and Miami. One of the busiest keyboardists in the area, Dave works with his own jazz trio, the Tony Castaneda Latin Jazz Sextet, The Ben Ferris Octet and The Darren Sterud NOLA Tribute Band.  He also co-leads Steely Dane, a 16 member Steely Dan tribute band. He performs regularly with his trio and quartet at Smalls Jazz Club in New York City. His recording, titled “Urban Legends” is available on cdbaby.com.  He was a semifinalist in the Thelonious Monk Piano Competition, The American Jazz Piano Competition, and a finalist in the Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition. He received a Master Of Music Degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Miami-Coral Gables, and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Composition from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
