smALL Press Library

About

Small presses publish some of the most vibrant literature in America, but their titles aren’t widely available in the public libraries or in local bookstores. These are also the presses most likely to invest in publishing new, unknown, or experimental writers. Reading these books is important but buying them can be costly.

The Ellen Kort Mezzanine at Arts + Literature Laboratory is home to Madison’s only small press lending library. Our collection has over 3,000 titles, consisting mainly of poetry, but also includes fiction, nonfiction, and art books, and highlights Wisconsin authors. We also host a non-circulating Chapbook Collection containing over 300 titles that patrons can access during regular hours.

Borrowing privileges are only one of the many benefits available to members of Arts + Literature Laboratory. The checkout period is 30 days. Non-Members are welcome to browse and read anytime during library hours.
