As part of In Good Company, an expo of art by emerging veteran artists curated by Yvette Pino, Arts + Literature Laboratory will feature Egress as From Above, and From Within: Images and Observations Reconsidered by Daniel J. King from November 17 to December 22, 2018. The exhibit combines video, sound, image, and text to engage visitors on multiple fronts with the combination of highly personal, subjective language and images relaying shifting psychological states. The word “egress” is a means of exit, a way out, a chance for escape. The work presented by King doubles as a way in, a means of entrance — a chance for engagement. An artist reception will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018, 7-9pm. Gallery hours are Thurs-Fri 12-4pm, Sat 11am-3pm, and by appointment.
Egress as From Above, and From Within
Daniel J. King, is an artist/educator making lens-based work with a tendency toward the idiosyncratic human relationship to place, geography, and representation. While his formal education is in photographic studio art, he gets easily bored with taking pictures. He returns again to explore the visual and conceptual possibilities that exist in the process of experiencing place in all its complexity, recognizing the mediation that defines our relationship to place and the anxiety of the photographic image and related texts.
