What's Going On?

Jazz on State returns during the Madison Festival for a second season of free, live concerts in downtown Madison, featuring outstanding musicians from the area. On June 15th, the series will feature the Charlie Painter Trio and Betsy Ezell Quintet from 5:30-8:00pm.

This season will feature a limited number of reserved tables, a beer tent and various food and beverage options.

Due to the weather, the music will move inside to The Majestic Theatre, 115 King St.

Charlie Painter

Charlie Painter is a self-studied, self-producing, Madison-based guitarist, teacher, and band leader. With over a decade of weekly gigs under his belt, Painter's fearless twist on Bop, Blues and Big Band will keep your mind guessing and feet tapping.

Betsy Ezell

Betsy Ezell is a jazz singer and composer from Madison, Wisconsin.

She has been on a growth trajectory as a musician and singer her entire life, learning and taking bigger risks along the way. It started with piano lessons, then violin, teaching herself guitar, then youth group worship band, singing in choir, then college choir and orchestra, later to a blues band, to jazz vocals, up to the singing with the big band, then on to worship leading for larger and larger audiences, to dabbling in arranging, to leading worship for 20,000 people at a conference, and ending up as a mom of two kids and really wishing she’d taken the leap into writing and performing her own music. At age 35, it just felt too late. But avoiding regret can be a tremendous motivator…
