NeuroArts Festival & Sound Garden at Olbrich Gardens

Experience four days of interactive, immersive, and multisensory events at Olbrich Botanical Gardens from Wednesday, August 12 through Saturday August 15, including a two-day spatially composed Sound Garden installation by composer and NeuroArtist JG Everest. The NeuroArts Festival will have a variety of programming centered on deepening audiences’ connection with the natural environment and with their Madison community, including participatory art workshops, sound installations within the Gardens, and collaborations with local performance groups. All events are free and open to the public; workshops will require advance registration. No prior experience necessary. This event was organized by the community curation project, LAB^4.

Friday, August 14, 6:30–7:30pm
Turn your Friday night into a magical experience. Join us for a unique, walking musical journey through the beautiful gardens. As you wander the paths, you’ll encounter short, captivating operatic scenes performed live in various garden settings. Grab a drink from the bar, take a stroll, and let the music surround you in a stunning sensory experience.


Workshops:
•Wednesday, August 12, 5:00–7:00pm: Poems in Place | a poetry in nature workshop with Aurora Shimshak | requires free registration (12 spots)
There will be the opportunity for attendees to present their poems at a live reading on Saturday 8/15 at 3:00pm!

•Thursday, August 13, 5:00–7:00pm: Spatial Sound & Music Workshop | requires free registration (20 spots)
There will be an opportunity for attendees to partipate in the live orchestra on Friday & Saturday!

•Saturday August 15, 10:00am-12:00pm: Woven Moments: An Embodied Practice | a weaving & meditation workshop with Mo Oberman | requires free registration (10 spots)

Composer / Director / Historian JG Everest is a multi-disciplinary artist working at the intersections of engagement, ecology, history, and the emerging field of NeuroArts through a variety of collaborative place-making practices. He creates site-specific performance installations that connect the histories, ecology, and cultures of places and communities, using spatial sound design as an integral compositional element. He has worked as music director and sound designer, as well as performer for many projects and performing ensembles, including over a decade each with Catalyst Dance and Roma di Luna.
