New Music Series: Dave Cooper & Peter Dominguez

Anders Svanoe's New Music Series presents jazz trumpeter Dave Cooper and Peter Dominguez on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at 5:00pm. This concert is free, but donations help to support the continuation of the series.

David Cooper is widely recognized as one of the most versatile trumpets players in the Midwest.  The summer and fall of 2014 plan to be busy as there are four recording projects in the works!  One is going to be a jazz quartet setting of mostly original compositions and another is a recording of the concerti of Lauren Bernofsky, James Stephenson and Anthony Plog.

As a performer, his affiliations include the Madison Symphony Orchestra, the Isthmus Brass, The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Tom Gullion, The Art Blakey Tribute Band, and The Tim Whalen Nonet. He has given solo recitals at the Universities of: Duluth, Wyoming, Wisconsin, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Whitewater, UW-Green Bay, UW-LaCrosse and Lawrence Conservatory.  He has also given solo recitals at ITG Conference, NY Brass Conference, Central Conservatory of Beijing, China.  Ensemble affiliations have included the Wisconsin Brass Quintet, the Milwaukee, Fox Valley, Canton and La Crosse Symphony Orchestras, The Cleveland Jazz... Peter Dominguez Bassist

Peter Dominguez grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin participating in the Music for Youth Orchestras, and performing with his father, pianist and singer Frank DeMiles. His teachers included Willard Feldman and Clyde Russell. Peter went on to study with Roger Ruggeri and Richard Davis at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he earned his baccalaureate and masters degrees with a teaching assistantship 1980-82.

In 1981 he was the first recipient of the Milton J. Hinton scholarship competition award.  A teaching assistantship and doctoral studies with Dr. Lucas Drew at the University of Miami, Coral Gables followed in 1982-84. Eventually securing positions in both the Florida Philharmonic and Michigan State University, Peter chose MSU, served as Professor of Double Bass and Jazz Studies 1984-96, and was instrumental in developing their Jazz Studies program.  During his Michigan years, he continued studies with Robert Gladstone and performed with the Detroit Symphony.
