Oakwood Chamber Players

Arts and Literature Laboratory welcomes Oakwood Chamber Players on Sunday, February 11, at 7:00 pm, for a heartwarming afternoon of music for winds, strings and harp. Tickets are $25 general admission, and $20 for students and seniors. Purchase advance tickets directly from the Oakwood Chamber Players website. Please note the 7:00pm start time.

Meet OCP at the intersection of prose and music, with this program dominated by contemporary American composers. Paul Wiancko’s “American Haiku” puts a new spin on the traditional poetic form, incorporating Applachian fiddling and percussive elements, in addition to Japanese folk-inspired melodies. Indulge in the dramatic with “Shakespeare Scenes” by Craig Bohmler, whose repertoire is anchored in musical theater and opera, and then grab your beret and double espresso as Stacy Garrop’s “Bohemian Cafe” paints a flamboyant scene teeming with artistic fervor.

Along the vein of imagination, Malcolm Arnold made a living transporting listeners to different times and places, having written over one hundred film scores. The program will feature the British composer’s "Trio Op. 6," an early work that captures his affinity for whimsical instrumental exchange.

Finally, it wouldn’t be the season of romance without a touch of unrequited love. “Serenata in vano” by Danish composer Carl Nielsen tells the story of two chivalrous suitors who attempt unsuccessfully to woo a lady out onto her balcony.
