per se per form

Visual artists and Bangkok-based midwest natives, Rebecca Vickers and Elissa Rae Ecker return for a Wisconsin summer with per se per form, an exhibition bringing together a collection of new works produced in Thailand that blur the boundaries between new-media, performance and installation art.

per se per form opens on Saturday, July 13, 2019 with a reception from 6-9pm. Enjoy tunes by WORT 89.9 FM DJ Bootsy and DJ 45 Freakout, as well as free souvenirs. The exhibition will be on view through August 17, 2019. Summer gallery hours are weekdays by appointment and Saturdays 11am-3pm. FREE

Exhibition Statement

When living and creating in a space which is unfamiliar, we are granted a freedom that allows for even the everyday to appear extraordinary. Unexpected connections develop alongside a persistent distance from the audiences and spaces one engages with. Roles are reversed, the observed stares back, the stage expands. Per se per form presents works of autonomous performances that explore and celebrate these perspectives living in the gaps - performing for audience, place, and perhaps one another with intent of equal proportion.

Rebecca Vickers

Rebecca Vickers (B. 1981, Madison, WI, USA) is a visual artist based in Bangkok, Thailand. She received her Bachelor of Science in Fine Art and graduated with academic honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2007, and an MFA in Visual Arts from the Faculty of Painting, Silpakorn University in 2014. Vickers’ practice often utilizes a process of collection, framing instances of the everyday in a manner through which their extraordinary nature is brought front and center. Rebecca’s work has been shown internationally, with recent exhibitions at YEO Workshop, Singapore (2015), the Bangkok Biennial, Thailand (2018), Art Teleported, New York, USA (2019) and CICA Museum, Seoul, South Korea (2019).

Elissa Rae Ecker

Elissa Rae Ecker (b. 1984, Minnesota, USA) is an interdisciplinary maker, curator and lecturer currently working in Bangkok, Thailand. She holds a BFA in painting from the Peck School of the Arts at The University of Milwaukee and an MFA in Art Practice from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Elissa’s project-based practice questions traditional gender roles while playing with the absurdities of current visible traditions she experiences in Asia and her rural upbringing in the USA. Often wry in execution, her work spans object making, time-based media and net-art experiments. As a founding member of LIV_ID art collective (Bangkok-based) she also facilitates art experiences beyond typical art world boundaries. Elissa’s work has been shown internationally, with recent exhibitions included in the Bangkok Biennial, Thailand (2018) and in the former Robert Miller Gallery Space in New York, USA (2018).
