Third Coast Chamber Collective

Arts and Literature Laboratory welcomes Third Coast Chamber Collective for Sangam – Works influenced by Indian classical music, on Friday, April 21 at 7:00pm.

The Sangam program will include chamber music works written by three American female composers, Reena Esmail, Akshaya Avril Tucker and Asha Srinivasan, including the world premiere of Srinivasan's Pareeksha for violin and cello. All compositions are influenced by the traditions of Hindustani and Carnatic music and combine the Western classical and Indian classical music idioms while exploring the intersection of identity, belonging, and traditional and contemporary concepts of sound. This special performance will be concluded by a Q&A session with composer Asha Srinivasan, Associate Professor of Music at the Lawrence University in Appleton, WI.

This performance is supported by the University of Wisconsin–Madison Division of the Arts David and Edith Sinaiko Frank Graduate Fellowship for a Woman in the Arts.

Founded in Madison, WI, Third Coast Chamber Collective (TCCC) is a group of musicians from diverse backgrounds building connection by improving community access to the arts and arts education. Currently an Ensemble In Residence at the Itasca Orchestra & Strings Program in Grand Rapids, MN, TCCC is striving to provide the community with the highest quality chamber music performances, educational opportunities for youth and adults, as well as bringing new music to life. Evgeny Zvonnikov

Russian violinist Evgeny Zvonnikov enjoys a varied career as a performer and educator. He is currently faculty of West Texas A & M University and has served for several years as the Associate Concertmaster of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and Concertmaster of the Wichita Grand Opera Orchestra. Evgeny has taught masterclasses around the world and has collaborated with many acclaimed musicians, including pianists Misha Dichter, Leon Fleisher, Gilbert Kalish, and Peter Donohoe. As a member of the Grammy nominated St. Petersburg String Quartet, Evgeny participated in many summer music festivals and concert series in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Russia, and performed in renowned concert halls, such as Carnegie Hall in New York. In 2021 Evgeny won the First Prize at the Golden Classical Music Awards, which included a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Magdalena Sas

Prize winner of international competitions, Polish cellist Magdalena Sas performs across Europe, Asia and the Americas, and appeared in renowned concert halls such as Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, BOZAR in Brussels, Witold Lutoslawski Studio in Warsaw, NCPA in Mumbai. She had the privilege to share the stage with Ivry Gitlis, Gary Hoffman, Philippe Graffin, Frank Morelli and collaborate with ensembles such as the Australian World Orchestra, the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonietta Cracovia, the Beethoven Academy Orchestra in Poland, YES Camerata and Hulencourt Soloists in Belgium. While working in India, she collaborated with world-famous Indian musicians: Zakir Hussain, Rakesh Chaurasia and Sabir Khan, and appeared as a soloist at the opening concert of the Royal Opera House in Mumbai.

Iva Ugrčić

Asha Srinivasan

Indian-American composer Asha Srinivasan’s music fuses her Indian heritage and Western musical training. Her works have been performed by renowned ensembles such as Alarm Will Sound and Da Capo Players and is heard frequently in national and international venues. Honors include the 2011 Thailand International Composition Competition, Flute New Music Consortium, BMI’s Women's Music Commission, and the Flute/Cello Commissioning Circle.
