Join us for the official launch of #BikeTheArt's 2017 season on Saturday, May 20, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm (or later if you want to stick around for more music)
Bike the Art is a monthly curated bicycle tour of Madison’s arts offerings. Organized by ALL, The Bubbler, VEA Events and Madison Community Discourse, in collaboration with local artists, arts organizations and businesses, Bike the Art encourages participation in the arts via sustainable transportation, and promotes the richness of arts resources available in the Madison area. It’s free to join the tour - all ages welcome. Those who cannot bike are invited to walk, bus, or carpool to meet up with us along the route. Participants are welcome to join the tour at any stage.
The kick off tour will take place on Saturday, May 20th, beginning at 5:00pm at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA). The first 50 participants to check in will receive Bike the Art bags with gifts from some of the event partners. This tour doubles as the opening reception of Digital Aura, the first project of a new collaboration between MMoCA and ALL to promote digital-based arts in Madison. Laura Hyunjhee Kim, one of three artists featured at MMoCA during Digital Aura, will show (Modern) Formations II (2016) in MMoCA’s Imprint Gallery. Kim and Digital Aura curators Simone Doing and Max Puchalsky will give a talk at 5:30pm.
The tour will continue at Old Sugar Distillery, arriving at 6:15pm, where selections from Off the Wall, ALL’s summer outdoor video art screen series, will be shown while participants enjoy snacks from Underground Food Collective and have free bicycle safety checks by Machinery Row Bicycles.
The last stop of the tour will be at Arts + Literature Laboratory at 7:15pm, where Digital Aura artist Sanaz Mazinani will show her work Threshold (2015). Following the viewing and a discussion about Sanaz Mazinani’s artistic practice, we will end the night with music by Frozen Horse. Noosh food truck will also be on hand for hungry cyclists.
Bike the Art tours are being scheduled each month from May through October. Most stops feature special activities or receptions, including artist/curator talks, food art, video screenings, performances, hands-on experiences and more. The next tour will take place on Saturday, June 17th beginning at 9:00am at Promega to view their summer exhibition and continuing to Paoli to visit Artisan and other galleries.
