ABOUT
OFF THE WALL was founded in 2016 by artist collaborative Simone and Max with the goal of establishing a regular, off-campus venue for diverse contemporary film and video. In particular, the series aims to support alternative and experimental work produced in the last three years. Since piloting the program, OFF THE WALL has screened works by 77 artists—from 50 countries across 6 continents—culled from 728 submissions. The series provides local artists with a valuable opportunity to share the screen with national and international talent while exposing Madison area residents to global currents in contemporary video art. Past screenings have included works by James Bridle, Lizzie Fitch & Ryan Trecartin, Sky Hopinka, Keiichi Matsuda, Steve Roggenbuck, and Lina Selander, among others.
Screenings take place in the brick alleyway adjacent to Arts + Literature Laboratory. The viewing area is ADA accessible with an all-gender restroom onsite. Artists will be announced in July 2018; visit artlitlab.org for program updates and to learn more about ALL.
OFF THE WALL is curated by artists Simone Doing and Max Puchalsky (simoneandmax.com) with support from Madison Film Forum (madfilm.org) and the Arts + Literature Laboratory Curatorial Board. This project is made possible in part by funds from the University of Wisconsin–Madison Division of the Arts.
