Fermat’s Last Theater’s 2018 season will open with two nights of a staged reading of the 1938 testimony of Hallie Flanagan, Director of The Federal Theatre Project, before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). Titled Acting Un-American, the readings will be at 7:30 PM, Thursday April 5 & Friday April 6, 2018, at Arts + Literature Laboratory. Admission is free.
Reading the part of Hallie Flanagan will be Maggie Schenk and she will be questioned by a panel of three “congressmen.” A rehearsal scene from some of the Federal Theatre’s plays and material from Hallie Flanagan’s autobiography, Arena, will be included. The script and direction are a collaboration between Maggie and Greer Dubois, who played the title role in Mother Courage Alone, their radical adaptation of the Brecht classic.
