Jazz Artistic Development Program

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

The Jazz Artistic Development Program, founded by the Greater Madison Jazz Consoritum, supports the efforts of local jazz musicians to create and present engaging new projects. This program encourages our local jazz musicians and composers to stretch themselves as creative artists. One project is selected to receive a stipend of up to $5,000. (Other projects may be funded if additional funds are available.) We hope that the artistic quality of this project and our past recipients will inspire individual jazz lovers and supportive businesses to make a gift to ALL to help continue this initiative in future years.

WHO CAN APPLY?

  • The applicant must be the leader of the proposed project and must be a jazz musician. To be considered a jazz musician, the project leader may perform in other musical genres, but their primary genre must be jazz.
  • The applicant must be a resident of Dane County, although other artists involved in the project may reside outside of Dane County.
  • The applicant must be 18 years old at the time of application submission.
  • ALL board members and consultants are not eligible to apply or be part of a project team.
  • Nonprofit and for-profit organizations, schools and school districts, and government agencies are not eligible to apply. However, local jazz musicians who are employed by such entities are eligible to apply.

WHAT KINDS OF PROJECTS ARE WE ARE LOOKING TO FUND?

  • Proposed projects must focus on new work.
  • Eligible projects may include – but aren’t limited to – creation of new works, new artistic collaborations within the jazz genre or between jazz musicians and other artistic disciplines.
  • Proposed projects must include at least one public presentation. This presentation could be as part of Madison Music Collective's DIG JAZZ series or at another readily accessible venue in the Greater Madison area.
  • Proposed projects should be realistic in scale and scope, given the amount of funds available, and must plan to be completed by December 31 of the grant year.
  • While projects may require funding of any amount (from multiple sources), applicants must request no more than $5,000 from ALL.
  • In selecting our stipend recipient(s), we may give extra consideration to projects that increase accessibility and equity for both artists and audiences.
