Art Lit Lab is partnering with POLKA to offer printmaking with the professionals! This five week class will hold four printing classes at POLKA Press Studio (2132 Fordem Avenue) and one writing class at Arts + Literature Laboratory (2021 Winnebago St). Classes run 6-8:30p each week. Due to the intensive process and technical equipment required for letterpress, enrollment is limited to four students. We will enable a waitlist and consider opening a second class section if there is high demand.
Letterpress printmaking melds the cerebral with the kinesthetic, the intimate with the industrial, the past and present. This hands-on class will introduce you to the practices of a working print shop, from setting type to adding imagery, in the process of creating a collaborative limited-edition broadside. Then each participant will put these skills to work on their own creative project. This class is perfect for writers hoping to transform their work to a new medium, or visual artists looking for writing inspiration. The second week of the class will be dedicated to generating writing fit for print (held at ALL); all other classes will be held at POLKA's studio.

Students will be informed of supervised open studio hours options. For students interested in pursuing a POLKA membership or ongoing use of POLKA's studio, this course will also serve as your orientation to use the space independently and effectively.
