Spring 2019 Adult Music Improvisation | Arts + Literature Laboratory | Madison Contemporary Arts Center

Spring 2019 Adult Music Improvisation

This group workshop is intended for any instrumentalist or singer who wants to become more comfortable with improvisation, in any genre or setting. We will work through a variety of musical concepts, such as phrasing, note choice and interactive improvisation, to help you gain confidence in your improvisational playing. Registrants should have at least a basic level of competence on their instrument and be comfortable playing alongside others- beyond that, players of all experience levels are welcome.

Bring your instrument or your voice; one keyboard and one guitar will be provided for group use.

Wilder Deitz

Wilder Deitz grew up playing on tour with his father, singer-songwriter Ritt Deitz. Wilder started leading his own groups in middle and high school, eventually studying creative music under NEA Jazz Master Richard Davis at the University of Wisconsin. Since then Wilder has performed on festival, opera house, and performing arts stages across the Midwest, as well as on television and the radio. Today Wilder serves as Creative Director for the Wilder Deitz School for Creative Music, and splits his time between touring with his band and passing on his craft to the next generation of creative musicians.
