The World at Stake: Writing a Young Adult Novel Workshop

In this workshop, we'll discuss what features and strategies young adult writers can use to write a strong first chapter of a novel in any genre, from science fiction to contemporary realism. We’ll discuss character, world-building, plot, and language, culminating in one-on-one conferences about your first chapter.

Writer Brittany Cavallaro

Brittany Cavallaro's poems have appeared in AGNI, Gettysburg Review, Tin House, the Best New Poets anthology, and elsewhere. She received her MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she was awarded the Milofsky Prize in Creative Writing. Recently, she was the recipient of scholarships from the Bread Loaf Writers Conference, as well as fellowships from the Vermont Studio Center and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is the author of A Study in Charlotte, the first book in a new trilogy about a brilliant new crime-solving duo: the teen descendants of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.
