i cut the bottom
off a plastic bottle
filled it with bird seed
stuck it to my kitchen window
waited for over a week
nothing happened
this morning
pouring milk in my cheerios
looked up and there it was
light brown and red feathers
a sunflower seed cracking open
in her mango-orange beak
its tiny head crest
the always present
exclamation point
as she studied me through
the window’s glass
