Ensemble Aplomb

Newly formed in 2018, Ensemble Aplomb's members, all distinguished performers in the field, are Daniel Sullivan, harpsichord, Monica Steger, traverso, and Eric Miller, viola da gamba.

MONICA STEGER, Flutist, keyboardist, vocalist, director, composer, arranger, and educator, has performed in chamber ensembles specializing in Baroque repertoire since 1998. Her studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Indiana University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison covered the theoretical, historical, and performing aspects of music. Her research interests include 18th-century secular cantatas, Baroque dance, and rhetoric and aesthetics of the Baroque and Classical eras. She also enjoys performing newly-composed music for traverso and harpsichord. She teaches private lessons in the Milwaukee area and is a production assistant at a local music education publishing company.

DANIEL SULLIVAN, harpsichordist, studied piano at Baldwin-Wallace College under George Cherry. Pursuing an interest developed during college, Dan graduated from Yale University with a Master of Music degree in Harpsichord where he studied with Albert Fuller. He subsequently studied with Gustav Leonhardt in Amsterdam, returning to the States to play with such groups as Basically Bach, Chicago Baroque Ensemble, and Jubal's Lyre in the Chicago area.  Recently Dan and his family relocated to the Madison area where Dan serves as harpsichordist with Sonata à Quattro and serves on the board of Bach Around the Clock. Dan recently formed a new ensemble, Barocco, which has its premier season in 2018-2019. In addition, Dan is President of Concept Dynamics, a software consultancy based in New Glarus, Wisconsin, which serves customers in the higher-education research market as well as medical device companies.

ERIC MILLER,  cellist, viola da gambist, and educator, is a specialist in baroque and early classical repertoire and performs solo recitals on viola da gamba throughout Wisconsin in addition to performances with the Wisconsin Baroque Ensemble. A versatile improvisor, Eric collaborates frequently with songwriters, including Indie Folk artist Katie Burns with whom he has recorded five albums. Eric is the founder and director of the Madison Youth Viol Consort, a program which introduces students, grades 8-12, to historical performance. In addition, Eric teaches a large private cello studio and has taught orchestra in public schools at all levels since 2009. As a classically trained cellist, Eric holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and UW-Madison where he trained with two consummate chamber musicians, Marc Johnson and Parry Karp.
