Between 1980 and 2000, my country, Colombia, was immersed in a sea of violence due to Narco-trafficking wars and random explosions were a part of daily life. I was fortunate to be physically unscathed, yet the explosions were always close enough to affect me psychologically. I became especially fascinated with the moment when a person feels the shattering pieces and shapes of the explosion as if they were floating around the body. As a result, my mind became a map of scattered figures and moments. I carry memories that morph and form events and flashbacks that may or may not have happened. My art is my response to these fragments that unexpectedly appear and disappear. As a compulsive reaction, I have taken to recording explosive fragments as drawings on paper as well as cloth creating colorful motifs. What are the limits or boundaries to such experiences since they replay again and again in my mind? They are a kind of pattern that is on endless repeat.
