Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society: American Haiku for viola and cello

On Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at 7:00pm, Arts + Literature Laboratory will host a music education event featuring Jeremy Kienbaum, viola and Trace Johnson, cello, from Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society. They will perform and discuss American Haiku, written by Brooklynite Paul Wiancko in 2014. This richly-textured duo for viola and cello incorporates Appalachian fiddling, percussive patterns, and Japanese folk-inspired melodies. Donations gratefully accepted.

Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society is a local chamber music festival now in its 27th year. It’s known for infusing traditional and contemporary classical music with insights about the music, mystery guests and other fun surprises. Jeremy Kienbaum

Violist Jeremy Kienbaum, first prize winner in the 2015 Enkor International Chamber Music Competition and the 2013 National Federation of Music Clubs Student/Collegiate Competition, is a chamber musician, soloist and teacher. He has performed with members of the Metropolitan Opera and New York Philharmonic Orchestras and worked with conductors Fabio Luisi, Alan Gilbert, and Itzhak Perlman. As a chamber musician, Mr. Kienbaum has worked with members of the Juilliard, Shanghai, and Kronos Quartets, and has been featured on Wisconsin Public Radio and Classical KING radio in Seattle. A devoted supporter of the arts in schools, Mr. Kienbaum teaches for the Juilliard Music Advancement Program and for the After-School Arts Program at Nord Anglia International School in New York City. Trace Johnson with Cello

Cellist Trace Johnson is a musician from Madison, Wisconsin. Trace has appeared as a chamber musician, soloist, and orchestral musician in a wide variety of ensembles and settings around the world. Equally at home teaching in the studio or performing on stage, Trace is a devoted and thoughtful communicator who enjoys a varied career as a cellist, teacher, and musician.

Trace holds section cello positions at the Sarasota Orchestra in Sarasota, Florida and the Southwest Florida Symphony in Fort Myers, Florida; in Florida, he has performed with Miami’s Nu Deco Ensemble, Sarasota Opera, Miami City Ballet, Palm Beach Symphony, Palm Beach Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Atlantic Classical Orchestra, Boca Symphonia, Orlando Philharmonic, Kravis Pops Orchestra, Symphony of the Americas, Miami Symphony, Orchestra Miami, South Florida Symphony, and the New World Symphony.
