Dave Cooper Quartet feat. Chris Rottmayer, Nick Moran, Michael Brenneis

ArtLitLab presents the Dave Cooper Quartet on August 9, 2019 at 8pm. Dave Cooper (trumpet), Chris Rottmayer (piano), Nick Moran (bass) and Michael Brenneis (drums), will be performing the legendary masterpiece "A Love Supreme". The 2nd set will include original compositions inspired by Coltrane.

Tickets are $10 in advance at https://davidcooperquartet.brownpapertickets.com, or $15 at the door. Student tickets are $5 off with valid school ID. Advance ticket sales end 1 hour before the show. Doors open at 7:30pm.

David Cooper is widely recognized as one of the most versatile trumpets players in the Midwest.  The summer and fall of 2014 plan to be busy as there are four recording projects in the works!  One is going to be a jazz quartet setting of mostly original compositions and another is a recording of the concerti of Lauren Bernofsky, James Stephenson and Anthony Plog.

As a performer, his affiliations include the Madison Symphony Orchestra, the Isthmus Brass, The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Tom Gullion, The Art Blakey Tribute Band, and The Tim Whalen Nonet. Michael Brenneis

Michael Brenneis has been an essential mover in the Madison improvised music community for twenty years. From his early work with Tomato Box and The Active Percussion Duo, to later projects such as Post Consumer Gnarl, The Ten Sleeps Trio, The Improvisor’s Workbench, and Executive Tea Set, he is consistently demolishing the boundaries of musical convention. In 2018 Michael was awarded an Artistic Development Grant by the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium to compose, record and premiere a large ensemble work entitled Plutonium. Also in 2018 Michael is recording a monthly series of improvised duets under the handle Deeds & Endeavors Part One, available on bandcamp: https://deedsone.bandcamp.com/. Michael also collaborates with many other Madison groups including The New Breed Jazz Jam, The Alison Margaret Jazz Quintet, The Anders Svanoe Double Trio, and Major Vistas.

Nick Moran Bass

Bassist Nick Moran is a veteran of Madison’s music scene and has been performing for over 20 years. A prolific bassist on both electric and the double bass, Nick regularly performs a diverse roster of musical genres including Jazz, Afro Latin, Hip Hop, Reggae, Funk, and more.

As a student UW-Eau Claire, Nick studied under the legendary bass educator Dr. James Clute of the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra. During that time, he had the honor of studying briefly with maestro Orlando ‘Cachaito’ Lopez of the famous Buena Vista Social Club. Nick Moran completed his studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Arts in 2004.
