Fermat's Last Theater, Co. will present two performances of No Regrets! Albert Camus and Edith Piaf in the French Resistance, on Saturday, October 26, 7:30pm and Sunday, October 27 at 2:00pm. Free admission.
Paris, August 1944. The City of Light has been in the dark shadow of German occupation for four long years. But Paris is about to erupt in rebellion as the forces of the underground resistance have united and American and Free French forces are approaching the city. Albert Camus was the editor of the resistance newspaper Combat, and you will hear from his editorials excoriating those who have collaborated with the Nazi occupation and exhorting the underground army to rise and take their city back. They are remarkable for their moral clarity and urgency. Edith Piaf was the most famous singer of her age and used her money and contacts to help artists and musicians, many of them Jewish, to hide or escape. The performance will feature six of her iconic songs (and two others).
The cast includes Amanda Lauricella as Piaf, Melvin Hinton as Camus, with Daniel Graupner as the narrator. Music by Aubrie Jacobson on piano and Autumn Maria Reed on bass.
Free as always.
