Oakwood Chamber Players | Arts + Literature Laboratory | Madison Contemporary Arts Center

Oakwood Chamber Players

The Oakwood Chamber Players return to Arts + Literature Laboratory on Sunday, February 16, at 2:00pm. Oakwood will present a tapestry of chamber music for winds, strings and piano that spans three centuries. Tickets are $25 general admission, $20 seniors, and $5 for students. Advance ticket sales are available at oakwoodchamberplayers.com.

Works by living composers Wang Jie and Amanda Harberg explore the process of time and change through sound. Jie’s “Waiting for the Beginning” abstractly chronicles the composer’s observations of a nesting sparrow, with which she connects metaphorically with her creative life. Audiences can expect a spiritual and emotional encounter with “Aria” from Harberg’s “Crossroads.”

Trios by two French composers will round out the program. Jean Cras, a career naval officer, was at sea in 1926 when he wrote his String Trio, infusing feelings of both exhilaration and longing, teeming with strummed strings and floating folk-like melodies. While rooted in the 20th century, Charles Koechlin’s Trio D’Anches (reed instrument trio) of 1945 has a timeless quality that captures the composer’s passion for medieval music.
