The Lowest Pair

Thursday, June 28, ALL presents The Lowest Pair at 8pm. The Lowest Pair took its name from a John Hartford poem. And that John Hartford poem is a pun on what many kids grew up reciting as The Lord’s Prayer. But this banjo-toting, bluegrass-tinged duo doesn’t really have anything to do with religion or punny lyrics. Comprised of Arkansas-born, Washington-based Kendl Winter and Minnesotan Palmer T. Lee, the two alternate between picking banjos and strumming guitars while singing sweet harmonies over each other—no other musicians or instruments needed. Winter and Lee reminisce on the immediacy of our lives, singing and harmonizing the age-old mantra, “there’s only here / there’s only now.” So with their bare-bones instrumentation and country-inspired, heartstring-tugging narratives, The Lowest Pair might be one of the best under-the-radar Americana duos today. Tickets $10 online in advance at https://thelowestpair.bpt.me or $15 at the door. Online sales end 1 hour before the show. Doors open at 7:30.

The Lowest Pair

Kendl Winter, born in Arkansas, moved to Olympia, Washington after high school, drawn to the evergreen forests and the lively and thriving music scene. She put three solo records out on Olympia’s indie label, K Records, and performed in nationally-touring northwest string bands before beginning The Lowest Pair in 2013 with Palmer T. Lee. Palmer built his first banjo when he was 19 from pieces he serendipitously inherited. Shortly after deciding songwriting would be the most effective and enjoyable medium for his musings, he began cutting his teeth fronting Minneapolis string bands and touring the midwest festival circuit, which is where he and Kendl first met, on the banks of the Mississippi.
