The Stolen Sea will be recording their next album, Subject/Object, on public display at Arts & Literature Laboratory’s Education Studio (on third floor) in two 4-hour sessions over two days.
Session One: Saturday, March 22, 2025, 12:00pm–4:00pm
Session Two: Sunday, March 23, 2025, 12:00pm–4:00pm
The musicians will be the main art installation and participants will have the opportunity to create physical art in the same space, (using provided materials or BYO), engage in the music (during specific interactions), or simply observe how the Stolen Sea record this album, altering the overall outcome by simply being present.
The event allows participants to enter and leave at will. A convenient "On Air" sign will let participants know when the music is being recorded and ushers will coordinate collaboration at various moments.
This art installation invites the audience to become integral collaborators in the creation of a new musical work. The project explores how the presence and energy of the audience influence the artistic process, blurring the lines between performer and spectator. The piece is a six-movement composition with a mix of structured orchestration and open improvisation, recorded in a public space where the boundaries between band and audience are fluid. As the audience’s actions and reactions shape the evolving performance, they become co-creators, impacting the music’s direction and energy. This collaborative process highlights the cyclical, symbiotic relationship between artists and their audience, where even passive observers contribute to the creation of a unique moment. The resulting recording will be part of a symphonic narrative cycle, with the event serving as an opportunity for deeper human connection through the shared experience of art.
