Arts + Literature Laboratory (ALL) presents Speech Balloon - Narrative in Art, featuring the work of three Madison artists: Colin Holden, Jeremy Pinc and Alex Williams. In comics, animation and narrative art images are more than images, they are a field from which characters emerge. These characters have their own stories, exist in their own world, and prompt us to ask questions about who they are and what they are doing. The artists embrace the ability of images to tell stories through this exhibition of recent drawings, paintings and screenprints. An opening reception will be held on Friday, August 12, 7-9pm. The artists welcome special guests Theo Howard, Heather Mulligan, and Gabe Rybicki, who will be drawing caricatures during the reception.
Speech Balloon: Narrative in Art
Colin Holden was born in Pittshburgh PA and currently lives in Madison. He is a collector of small press books, an occasional teacher at VSA and a dad. Colin has a range of interests and expertise that he brings to his work. He has a Masters in the History and Philosophy of Science, another is History, and is ever curious in finding themes and concepts to weave through his work. Living for periods in Mt. Vernon IA, South Bend and Richmond, IN and Columbus Ohio Colin has been working with artists and making art for more than two decades.
Jeremy “Guzzo” Pinc was born in Chicago, 1972. He grew up in the suburb of Oak Park, Illinois before attending The University of Richmond 1990-1994. Following graduation with an Art History degree he traveled extensively, living in Italy, Montana and various parts of the Midwest. He began painting around 1995, and his style has changed frequently during his career but there are consistent references to Modernism, Graffiti, Comics and Graphic Design throughout his work. More recently he has begun to incorporate the languages of Art Brut and Outsider Art. Jeremy now lives with his wife in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.
