A play by Will Eno
Dark times. Night, in fact. You might be excused for wondering what the event means and what comes next. For worrying about it even, if that’s your inclination. But whatever the uneasy darkness portends, you can be sure that you won’t have to face it alone. Fellow witnesses are standing by.
Tragedy: A Tragedy is, as the hint of bombast in the title suggests, the ideal antidote for the lamentable Wisconsin winter—wry, affectionate, and ultimately hopeful. At the end of the day you’ll feel better about humanity, if not for the chances of its survival, at least for the nobility of its cosmic epitaph.
On Sunday, January 28, 2018 at 2pm (doors open at 1:30pm), Tragedy: A Tragedy will have its Madison premiere in the form of a staged reading at Arts + Literature Laboratory. This all-star production is directed by Suzan Kurry and will be performed by Autumn Shiley, Carl Cawthorne, Edric Johnson, Patrick O’Hara, and Sean Langenecker.
Admission is free. Please consider a donation for the performers.
Seating for this single performance is limited. Indicate your intention to attend on the Facebook event page or via EnoTragedyJan28@gmail.com
Brooklyn playwright Will Eno was a finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, won the 2012 Horton Foote Award, and was a co-recipient of the 2012 PEN award for an American Playwright in Mid-Career. Eno’s quirky and perceptive take on the human condition, on full display in Tragedy: A Tragedy, will certainly bring him further recognition in the future.
