Artist Statement
I chose embroidery as the unappreciated media of women's artistic expression of that era - unappreciated, like women's involvement in politics. James Garfield was shot and died after only 100 days in office. With him ill and fighting for his life, Lucretia took care of her husband and the country for 99 days.
About the Artist
As a fiber artist, I work experimentally to develop new methods and involve variety of materials. My goal is to enlighten and promote public awareness of this beautiful traditional media historically linked to woman artistic expression.
