Artist Statement

Hannah Van Buren died before Matin Van Buren took office. His daughter in-law, Angelica Singleton assumed duties as first lady, and for a time was enamored with the royalty and courtly life in Europe. She was criticized for plans to create elaborate gardens on the White House grounds during the midst of a harsh economic depression in the country. Shadows explores the subtle and overt influences we wield through our thoughts, actions or deeds.

She is represented locally at the Abel Contemporary Gallery in Stoughton and Vale Craft Gallery in Chicago. After teaching and coaching gymnastics and movement education for over twenty years for infants through adults, it’s easy to take the “girl out of the gym, but not the gym out of the girl.” When Pat’s not in the studio working, she can be found on the trail, out on her bike, snow shoes or cross-country skis.
