Artist Statement

Vessel Beth reflects her quiet role as a sounding board and reciprocal for her husband’s ideas.“A woman’s place in public is to sit beside her husband, be silent, and be sure that her hat is on straight.”

I chose an image of Bess from her girlhood where I imagine her ideas about patriotism and marriage were set up.
