Artist Statement
I enjoyed doing the research on Edit Roosevelt and getting to know her.
In my painting, I chose to represent all things that meant the most to her on the details of her skirt so that they are close to her. Her family and being the best mother to them, giving them a normal childhood even though they lived in the White House, was very important to her. She wanted to make the White House a home. She was instrumental in rennovating the White House and the gardens to what it is today.
In the painting, she is overlooking some of her husband's accomplishments, preserving the National Parks. She is standing in the flower gardens overlooking her husband's profile on Mount Rushmore.
About the Artist
I always admired how artists can tell a story on canvas. I was determined to learn to tell my own story.
Born and raised in the beautiful state of Wisconsin, where the four seasons are a perfect backdrop for an artist, giving inspiration for many of my paintings, I followed my passion for the arts, from oil, watercolor or acrylic painting, mixed media/collage or jewelrymaking. I get great satisfaction and pleasure from creating a piece and then seeing it displayed in someone's home, in a gallery or art fair. I took formal training at the now-closed Academy of Fine Art in Denmark, Wisconsin, where I learned drawing, painting and sculpture. I took workshops around the state of Wisconsin in Appleton, Green Bay and Mineral Point. I am always excited to learn more to broaden and challenge my passion with great enthusiasm and excitement.
