Surface level: superficial or cursory in nature.
On the surface Lady Bird Johnson embodies a legacy around "beautification." In fact, many of her publicly shared, iconic moments feature fields of wildflowers stretched along concrete highways - pops of color to uplift and distract from what is beneath the surface. To no surprise, Lady Bird Johnson existed in a variety of entangled intersections, not just those made of highways, but - of cultural and societal issues that affect one another deeply. Despite the flashy nature of many beautification efforts, Lady Bird led in many invisible ways some many may never know.
This piece explores a different avenue of surface level found in today's culture. In an online dating profile, while scratching the surface one examines which parts of themselves to elevate and which parts to bury. Please enjoy Lady Bird's Profile and remember it's alright to swipe left, there're plenty first ladies in the sea.
